What are your fees?

At the time of writing, our fees are:

• £295 for new patients
• £225 for follow-up appointments
• £175 for skin prick testing
• Cost for blood tests vary depending on what is being tested.

Do I pay before the appointment?

Payment  for the appointment is taken beforehand, in order to confirm the appointment slot.  Payment for skin prick testing / blood testing taken on the day (if required)

What is your cancellation policy?

Please contact us as soon as possible if you can no longer make your appointment. Late cancellations (less than 48 hours) will be charged at full price unless we can fill the slot with another patient.

Will you summarise our appointment?

Yes. We aim to send you a letter summarising your appointment within 5 days. A copy of this letter will also be sent to your GP.

Will my GP be notified of any outcomes from my child’s appointment?

Are allergy plans provided as part of the appointment?

Yes, if we identify any allergies on the day of the appointment, an emergency allergy action plan will be provided.

Are the clinics accessible?

Both Edgbaston Private Medical Practice and The Consulting Rooms are period buildings, which means accessibility is limited. We can arrange wheelchair access if needed, but please be aware that neither building has a lift. Midland Metropolitan University Hospital is fully accessible. We’re happy to discuss any specific access requirements when making your appointment.

Do I need a referral?

I offer a private paediatric practice serving Birmingham and the West Midlands. This gives you access to expert care with no waiting list and no referral required. If you are not paying through an insurance company, please contact me directly, and I’ll explain the costs. Most new consultations will last 45 minutes.

If you have private health insurance, most insurers require a referral letter from your GP before you attend your appointment with me. When booking your appointment, please ensure that you send us your insurance company details, policy number, and claim number.

• Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow time for paperwork.
• Bring all current medications (including inhalers) to the appointment, as well as any clinic letters or previous allergy test results.
• Please bring any fresh fruit, vegetable or foodstuff that you think your child is allergic to. PLEASE DO NOT BRING nuts, sesame, wheat, egg, milk or airborne allergens such as grass and dust.
• If your child has reacted to packaged food, bring the ingredient list for review.
• Children must be off their antihistamines for 48hours before skin prick testing. This is essential. If their symptoms are such that they simply can’t come off or if they have needed an emergency rescue dose, then a blood test will be done instead. Please note that blood test results are not immediately available.
• It can be helpful to bring some notes about your child’s condition (when it first arose, triggers, symptoms etc) and any questions you would like to ask during the visit.
• Bring food (no nuts, sesame, wheat, egg, milk or airborne allergens, please) drinks, and entertainment (toys, books, or devices) to keep your child comfortable.

• Explain that they will meet Dr Nick, who wants to discuss their allergies or illness and help them feel better.
• There are videos of me on my YouTube channel if they want to get a feel for what I am like, and photos of me and the clinics which might also help familiarise them.
• It can be helpful to explain that they may need to be examined or undergo tests.
• Please note that we perform skin prick tests in almost all children. We do this because it is virtually painless and you can get results in the clinic, allowing us to quickly identify allergens. Please reassure your child that it does not involve any needles.
